What is the PEM2I ?

The PEM2I stands for a hub of excellence in microbiology, industry and innovation. It is a structured ecosystem of private and public operators based in the Cantal department, in France.

Boosted by its expertise in microbiology, our ambition is to create an international network in the fields of industrial microbiology and fermentation in order to meet the challenges of innovation and transition in the areas of food industry, health, agriculture/agronomy and environment.

Participate in the creation and organisation of initial and continuing training programs

Maximize synergies and resource sharing.

Lead and coordinate the sharing of facilities and cutting-edge scientific equipment for the whole team.
Facilitate strategic connections within the PEM2i group and interlink the partners' key skills.

Establish a specialized mixed-use building

Students, researchers and companies will be welcomed in a building specifically designed for the study and analysis of micro-organisms and the development of industrial microbiology applications.

The projects

The PEM2i building, a symbolic shared hub for all of our actions

The PEM2i facility, a powerful symbol and convergence point for all our initiatives is a 600 m² building dedicated to industrial microbiology.
Integrated in the local architecture of the Cantal and designed to respect its environment, and is scheduled for completion in 2027. Located on the hills, north of Aurillac, above the Château de Saint-Etienne, it will host students, researchers and industry partners in both shared and confidential areas.

The building will include :

  • classrooms, meeting rooms, collaborative workspaces, and functionnable administrative offices
  • training and service laboratories, equipped with PEM2i equipment: Maldi TOF biotyper, BioLector XT and bioreactors, etc.
